Therassist
This Privacy Policy explains Therassist's local-first architecture, on-device AI behavior, optional cloud recap with your own OpenAI API key, and optional iCloud sync through your private CloudKit database.
Therassist is local-first. Cloud recap is optional, and your recap settings stay under your control.
Therassist does not require an account and does not collect your journal content on our servers. Check-ins, voice memo transcripts, recaps, tags, and todos are stored locally on your device.
If you choose to enable optional cloud recap and provide your own OpenAI API key, only recap-related request content is sent directly from your device to OpenAI.
Therassist does not collect, store, or log cloud recap request content on Therassist servers.
If you contact support by email, we receive only the information you include in that support message.

Therassist uses Apple Foundation Models and related on-device intelligence features where available. AI outputs for recap and encouragement can be generated on-device on supported iPhone models.
Voice memo transcription is generated on-device. Therassist does not use OpenAI to perform transcription.
You may optionally enable cloud recap by providing your own OpenAI API key. When enabled, recap-related request content is sent directly from your device to OpenAI to generate recap responses.
Feature availability depends on device and OS capabilities, region, platform, system configuration, and third-party model availability.
If iCloud sync is enabled on your device, Therassist data may sync using CloudKit in your private iCloud database under your Apple ID. This data is managed through Apple's iCloud infrastructure and remains tied to your iCloud account settings.
If iCloud sync is disabled, data remains local to your device unless you explicitly export or share it.
We do not sell personal information and do not run advertising profiles based on your check-in content.
When you use recap sharing by email, content is sent by your chosen email flow and subject to your email provider's policies. Support messages are handled through email providers used for correspondence.
If you enable cloud recap, recap request content is processed by OpenAI as an independent third-party provider. Therassist does not receive or retain those cloud recap request payloads on Therassist servers.
OpenAI's handling of cloud recap requests is governed by OpenAI's own terms and privacy policy.
Because Therassist is accountless and local-first, you control deletion directly in the app and on your device. You can remove entries, remove the app, and manage CloudKit storage through iOS iCloud settings.
You can disable cloud recap and remove or replace your OpenAI API key in the app at any time.
For cloud recap requests, retention and deletion at OpenAI are governed by OpenAI's policies and your OpenAI account settings.
Support emails may be retained for a limited period to resolve requests and maintain service quality.
You can choose whether to use on-device AI only or enable optional cloud recap with your own OpenAI API key.
If you enable cloud recap, you are responsible for your OpenAI account, API key management, and compliance with OpenAI's terms and policies.

Therassist is not intended for children under the minimum age required by applicable law. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children in violation of legal requirements.
